OUR HISTORY

The Kelowna Actors Studio (KAS) has been presenting high quality Musicals and Plays to Kelowna audiences for 16 years. Founded by Randy Leslie and Nathan Flavel, KAS has presented over 100 different musicals and plays to rave reviews and standing ovations. Check out KAS here: https://www.kelownaactorsstudio.com

From the beginning, Randy has been passionate about teaching the skills of performance. KAS classes have grown from 4 classes in the first year with 8 to16 participants, to 12 different annual classes and camps with 20 to 35 students in each. Classes for teens have grown into the popular Performance Troupe and in 2014, a Young Company. From this the Academy was created.

The Kelowna Actors Studio Academy Foundation began in 2013 with Randy & Nate's dream of a first-rate performance arts school in Kelowna. They founded a society and created a local Board of Directors to further their vision. Margaret Gobie came on board as the Executive Director, and she began the research and applications for charitable status. Throughout this start up process, KAS supported the Foundation financially through administration, the charitable application, promotion and board development.

The Foundation received Charitable status in 2014. The after school classes and camps grew into the Studio Kidz programming and the Academy was created to be the full time performing arts school for students in grades 10 to12. The Studio Kidz classes are in demand and often have waiting lists.

The Academy had its first pilot student in the winter semester of 2015. The enrollment grew with 4 high school students and a pilot Middle School student, who all began their studies at the Kelowna Actors Studio Academy (KASA) in the Fall of 2015. Our growth continued in 2016 with 10 high school students and 3 Middle School students. We now focus on grades 10 to 12 and we continue to accept students each fall. Graduated students have gone on to post secondary training at Sheridan College and the Randolph Academy for the Arts in Toronto, at the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, and internationally.
